Spent 2 days of fun at Het Depot. Thursday was nice with De La Soul in fine form. They could use some new songs and ditto show with their last LP being released several years ago but they surely know how to rock a show. Would be nice if all Hiphop shows would reach this standard. A bit disappointed by the absence of both Dres and Prince Paul because these were the names that made me make the trip as I’ve seen De La more than a few times. About the opener I’m not going to say much more than the simple statement that it doesn’t look like Leuven Hiphop and I will ever connect. Although I heard some nice words about Undefined which I’ll surely check. Yesterday was übernice. Wish I could spent more nights in Belgium like this. Plenty of nice women dancing, sweating on the finest music around. Ben Westbeech pretty much played the same show as at Southport which I didn’t mind at all. It sounded tighter than in England to me but that could be because of my state of mind. Anyway top gig. Skipped Koop. Not really a fan of their polished jazz, nor the image they want to create. In between Lefto ruled behind the decks, as always. Love him playing these freestyle sets. And his love for Karizma tunes I definitely share. Gilles was, like last week, killing it. Playing only killers, no fillers. Switching genres with ease and mixing tighter than the last times I’ve seen him. Need to know some of the tunes he played. That epic third track and the percussion / piano driven track Lefto also played. Glued me to the dance-floor. Loved Gilles Tiësto-impression too, doing the Christ-pose. Lol. On top of this had lovely conversations with Bugalu’s Stan, Lefto, Midleft and some others. Makes it all a top night. Congratulations to Wikke for his 30th birthday by the way. Shame I couldn’t stay longer but not being fully recuperated from last weekend and my mid-week sickness made me head for home much earlier than usual. Really looking forward to tonight’s party. Just put some more records in my box I haven’t played in a long long time.
