Godfather Of Disco

Filed under: Music, Knowledge, Videos - Administrator @ 12:06 pm

Bit of a pompous title and not all that true but you can’t dismiss the man’s importance for dance music. I’m talking about Mel Cheren, the man behind West End Records (and so much more). Based on his autobiography “My life and the Paradise Garage; Keep On Dancing” this is a documentary about the man. It’ll add to the already well documented history of Disco music, no doubt, but I hope it’s more than everybody saying how great he was. We’ll see. Reminds me I need to finish the book.

Mel Cheren recently announced his retirement from the business. No more new West End releases. Their entire back catalogue will go digital though. Many classics are wrapped in that rose sleeve. Check it out.
