What a Weekend

Filed under: Nightlife, Reviews - Administrator @ 2:33 am

It looked like it would be a wild weekend with 2 dj dates and a party organised by us. And, not surprising, it was what it promised to be. Although not entirely like I hoped / thought it would be. Sometimes your mind plays tricks on you. Friday we played at CafĂ© Bota. Big up to Yassin for the superb welcome and hosting. Utter most respect for that. The feeling both Yoeri and I had after the set wasn’t all positive, our judgment coloured by the many requests we got (do I look like a juke-box or something). But the feeling we had wasn’t in touch at all with the response we got from the people dancing. So, sometimes you can be completely wrong as a dj and follow the crowd a little more. certainly because a lot of the compliments we got were from people we respect more than a lot. So I guess it was an good night after all. You live and learn, innit ? Thanks to the Businghe / Evere posse. Love y’all and you (should) know it. Nice to see Nick and wive, Red D, Carlos, Kurt, Alex and some other unexpected guests. We appreciate that a lot.

Saturday it was our first reggae party. We didn’t dj ourselves but let that to Boomblast, Boom-&-Ranks and Jugglin’ Discotheque. Big up to all of them. It was a great night. Enjoyed it very much. Even if it was more of a "classics" night than a "digital" night. Loved every bit of it though. Good music is good music. Big respect though to Jugglin’ for keepin’ tight to our request. Nice to see some old friends like Fakkes & Marjan, Gerrit & Sigi, Tim, Nico, Yannick, Wout, and so many more. We’ll do this more often. Promised.

Sunday we gathered what was left of ourselves and dragged our asses to the Red Bar to play a set at Secret Sundays. Not that convinced it was a good idea at first but once we kicked off our set we loved every single little bit of it. Nice atmosphere, nice people. Went deep and got great response in doing so. What a collection of lovely people to play for. Big, big thank you to Carlos. Nice one, both playing for you and talking to you. Lots of kisses to Didier, Phil and Gil (for showing up and giving me the very nice t-shirt), to Lieve and Karl (for showing up after a busy weekend), to Virginie, Lucie, the barman, Freddee, Laurent, Mitch, Kwak, 72Soul, Sven and all those other lovely people, whose name I don’t know or can’t remember, present. A big up for those connecting through the internet. Daquan and others. Nice to see or hear you are not forgetting us. We respect that a lot. Extra special thanks to Peter and Sophie for being (indirectly but still fully) responsible for getting the chance to play at Secret Sundays.

And weird to notice you get almost immune to alcohol after 3 days of partying. Not that I drank that much but it hardly affected me today. But now I’m going to sleep. Mustn’t forget to do that because next weekend will be even harder. Southport Weekender. How I long to be there.
