Trus’me - Working Nights

Filed under: Music, Buying Guide - Administrator @ 8:50 am

The Trus’Me album “Working Nights” is one of my favourites of this year. Out only a couple of weeks but it’s bang on it and it’s most certainly glued in my box for months to come. It’s a combination of 2 of the genres I love the most; Disco and House. Both styles taken in their broadest sense possible. It’s got that early Moodymann-esque vibe of “Can’t Kick This Feeling When it Hits” which I love so much.

It comes out of what is called the edit scene but to me it’s much more than just a simple edit of an old Disco song. It takes big chunks out of old songs, commonly called sampling in the Hiphop world, and rebuilds songs with that. To me that’s something else than reorganising an existing song so it’s better dance floor material. Otherwise every Hiphop beatmaker could be considered as an edit guy like Trus’me says in this short but nice interview (check the rest of the bloody interesting site too, btw).

Anyway, the LP consists out of strictly killer songs. “Narda” and “W.A.R.” are the ones that do it best in my sets but the others are all on the same high level. I can’t keep myself from referring to Moodymann but this piece of vinyl stands up high there with “Silent Introduction”. Time to dig that one up in the collection. But it’s not a copy. I always thought it was a shame not more artists did something in the same vain. Fusing House and Disco, keeping it raw and dark like House should be but with the joyous feel of Disco. Finally somebody (because even Moodymann himself went into another, jazzier, direction which I love just as much) got back on that track.

And if you like that music there’s more to find. Stilove4music, the label on which Trus’me released some of the tracks on his Lp (which is out on the heavy hitting label Fat City – see Also Wajeed) has more to offer. Haven’t got all their output but certainly Be’s “Nocturnal Jam” is pure gold if you like this kind of music. The first track on one of the sides (Stilove4music vinyls are all black with no info whatsoever) is ridiculously banging.

Buy this and put it on constant repeat with the Theo Parrish. They go well together. This one’s available on CD too.
